Overview:

I was asked to give a presentation on how e-Learning can enhance the learning experience of HE students. As a former teacher with experience of using moodle I felt confident that I would have a good knowledge base to address this question without much research.

Was I pleased with what I had done?

I felt that I did enough research and planning to get me as prepared as I could be. Overall I think that despite my nerves the panel could see that I was knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject.

What did I find easy?

I found that structuring my presentation was the easy part. I knew what the key points should be as these were my main concerns and areas of interest as a teacher.

What did I find hard?

The content of the topics - I knew the 'buzz words' but I felt I needed to look at these more in depth incase I was questioned further about any of them - for example I needed to be able to explain why making e-Learning accessible for all - especially at Solent University who strive towards an open and inclusive university.

I also found that talking about a specialist area in front of the subject specialists very scary. E-Learning is a subject that I am very keen on - I love technology - but I'm not the best technician. I have great ideas about what I want and how it should work but not sure how to build/create/develop the software & applications to do it.

For next time:

  1. I will make sure I have two copies of my presentation in case anything goes wrong again!
  2. Make sure that the writing isn't too small
  3. Get more sleep the night before
