Architect technology

6 Months Reflection

Starting up

Before I had started university I was in two minds of either to go university or go straight to work and develop my career as I go along. The reason why I had chosen to go university is because I wanted to gain a qualification in subject that I like and find a career after in it.  I also chose to go university to give myself a challenge to get a degree; to reach my gold with my head held high being proud in what I have accomplished. The reason I have chosen to pick architect technology as my degree is because a few of my friends have done this degree, convincing me that this degree is really interesting and I would like, at the same time I had already had an interest in building and how they work and built. I had then completed a background research on the subject; this had ensured me that I am choosing the correct subject.

My successes

I have always been very good working with a team all my life and have been in many different types teams, whether it is working in a football team to a group project. Knowing how to work together brings good work ethics and a healthy team environment. On the other hand I am also very good working individually, in which this is a skill that is required in everyday basis.  I have the ability to possess critical thinking and be unaccompanied.

My 'non' successes

When I had started this course I didn’t have any knowledge about the software auto cad as I had never used it before. At first I had found auto cad confusing and very challenging. After having many lesson on it I had gradually got the grip of auto cad. However I have still got a lot too learned about auto cad, where I have to ask for help in some cases in the work.  I also did not know how to illustrate and detail my hand drawings at first but now I have improved on this.

Key points that I've learned:

My key points would be that I have learned the software auto cad and becoming more knowledgeable with this program, where it is used in everyday workplace of an architectural technologist environment. I have also gained the knowledge of drawing by hand, and that it is vital as it gives the understanding and depth of the building.

What I'll carry forward throughout the rest of my course

I will try to be more organised and not to laid back about work that is given, where these are my weakness I would need to improve. The reason why is because this will help obtain the goals that I am trying to achieve. Instead of leaving most of the work till the end where the work becomes more daunting, I should be well organised and plan carefully.

Personal Profile

I have always had a considerable interest in architecture, ever since studying it briefly during my art GCSE course. Since then I've looked at architecture in detail through my work in as-level art, and in as-level technology; where I spent 4 months on an architecture related project, and gathered a huge amount of architectural knowledge. I think my versatility in coming up with solutions for proposals of any sort, and my articulate manner of communicating these solutions would suggest I would be well suited to the job of an architect. I believe it would be a very interesting career to pursue and could be very rewarding for a, hard working, creative, intellectual person such as myself. I also think my enthusiasm towards the subject would make the transition from 6th form to university much easier received for my academic achievements and my contribution as a student to the school. I was also given tutorial lessons on how to use a computer-aided design (CAD) system in the technology department. I now work part time on a flexible schedule for a catering business, and have worked at many high profile events, including 'party in the park' for the prince's trust I take pride in the fact that I readily contribute and take part in school charities, including a charity football tournament where I captained my team to the semi-finals. I was a class prefect and spent time after school organizing activities for younger students, including a chess tournament. I now regularly help out with after school activities, including guiding for prospective applicants on open days and providing general assistance. I was asked to take part in a gifted and talented enrichment program along with several other promising students during my secondary education. I have now accumulated several awards and certificates, my most significant being my 'supreme award', which I received for my academic achievements and my contribution as a student to the school.

Interests

I enjoy playing sports, particularly football I take part in a local Sunday league with friends.  I am a member at my local gym and boxing club and have a huge interest in keeping fit. I am currently learning how to play the piano and the guitar. I have interests in fashion; music, film and like to stay updated with all the latest trends.
